I having some thoughts about the possibility of starting a "GPL Template Club and want to check out if you think it is feasible.

There are a variety Template Club for Joomla (Rocket Theme, Yootheme etc.), the quality is high and the price can be quite high in some cases (of course they should get payed). There are many free templates for Joomla, quality varies (often with spammed links to other sites).

My idea is to start a Template Club based on donations and sponsors.

Idealic there should be releases once a month. This is of course depending on sufficent funds. The templates could be posted as requested jobs on Freelancer with desirable preferences from those who donated. One month it may be template for Virtuemart, K2 or JomSocial.

Companies could sponsor one months and get a small link in the footer (footer can be removed in the backend).

The goal is obviously to be able to produce high quality GPL-licence templates for a low cost (make it "free" for everyone - accessible for unlimited sites).

What do you think of the idea, is it feasible?
